Was going to mention kirkland laing.
He went from sublime to ridiculous..all the talent and more..but not the dedication unfortunately...liked the good life too much to say the least!.
Thats why i admire boxersso much..the self discipline required is immense

Genuinely fucking mad though, I met him several times as he used the same snooker club that I did in Hackney. Always off his head, which just added to the general nuttiness. Talented on his day but I remember him best, apart from the Duran fight, for getting his head removed by Colin Jones. Twice.

Andries was renowned as the hardest of hard men from Hackney, and a very decent bloke. Didn't he pitch up at the Kronk or somewhere pleading to be retrained as a fighter. After Hearns had annihilated him? Quality.

Used to love Minter... real memories of watching his fights with me old man... broke my heart the way he was dismantled by Marvelous ... threw my Salt & Vinegar Ringos at the TV that night... agree the Big 4 (SRL, Duran, Hearns and Marv) for me was the most exciting time I have ever known in Boxing (the Ali fights apart that is)

Hairy, I'd love to know what he thought of Minter after the alleged comments before their fight.
Not sure what went on there but the suggestion was that it was made-up b*llocks by the papers....as if they've ever done that ffs!
